From October 2015 through September 2016 CYD implemented a CVE project named Enhancing Youth Engagement (EYE). The project aimed at enhancing youth engagement to reduce possibilities of youth recruitment and radicalization to violent extremism. The project transformed at least 2,064 youth from three local communities of Bububu, Mwanakwerekwe and Mboriborini which had historical presence of street gangs. The EYE project also engaged respected religious and community leaders, women groups, academicians, entrepreneurs and human rights practitioners in Zanzibar to channel positive messages against violent extremism and other organized crimes in Zanzibar.
